I was in Mexico to celebrate a friend's wedding to the man of her dreams. And what a dreamboat he was! Impressions: 1) madly in love with his lady, 2) gentleman. They made a perfect couple as they were both intelligent, ambitious, generous, modest and cultured young people. I had 4 days with my friend before the big day, experiencing first-hand Countdown To A's Mexican Wedding, though to her it was just a wedding... Well let me just get on with the program...
Presents, Lots Of Them!
She and her fiance had opted for the North American (and possibly beyond) trend of registering for gifts at major department stores. Both the bride and groom live with their families, apparently a common practice for the predominantly Catholic country; after their honeymoon, they will move into their own home. Presents arrived by the truck-load five times a day and her parents' livingroom is basically now a storage space for matching china, crystal flutes and silverware. And four microwaves. Someone at the registery wasn't keeping count, I guess.Church.

Although there was no rehearsal dinner where all the key players of the ceremony got together for a few run-throughs, we did visit the Church one afternoon to familiarize the aisle-walkers with the environment.Twins.
Included at the rehearsal and in the wedding were the cutest fraternal twins I have ever seen! Awwwwwwww I want one (pair)!Florist.

The day before the wedding her cousin, aunt, mom and I went to get our nails done, with a stop to the florist to make a few last-minute requests. Imagine my surprise when I get to the florist and see... flowers sitting in buckets of water on a random patch of a random sidewalk. I had been told they are providing the flowers for the reception of 300... and the Church, and everyone's bouquets, and the car interior. And they're on the sidewalk!? Most likely, their location is not random as A's mom knew where to find them, but for a girl who's used to Tokyo florists setting shop in the most glamorous of ways, it was a culture shock. The florist-by-the-sidewalk had beautiful flowers and I wished my sidewalks were filled with fresh roses and lilies by the bucketful!More updates to follow shortly...
